Go Huskers!-Holiday Bowl Trip

The Nebraska Cornhuskers had one of their best years in recent memory.  All Husker fans were happy when the previous coach, who will remained unnamed, was given his walking papers to usher in a new era of this storied football team.

Enter Bo Pelini.  He came in a bit more rough around the edges and previously served as the defensive coordinator at Nebraska under Frank Solich.  He also served as interim coach before being let go by the aforementioned unnamed coach listed above after winning the Alamo Bowl in a solid victory over Michigan Michigan State in 2004  2003.  I digress.

We have been following the Husker's closely this year despite the amazing victories ( and agnozing defeats (9-7 lose to Iowa State comes first to mind).  As part of my Christmas present, Liz treated me to a trip to San Diego and the Holiday Bowl where the Husker's were to take on the Wildcats of Arizona.  After our short drive to Brush, we left Evan with Grandpa and Grandpa Cook (ear infection and all) to fly from Denver to San Diego.  We left behind the freezing temperatures and treked to sunny California with all of the other crazy Husker fans.

We had fun taking in the downtown San Diego sights, attending part of the Holiday Bowl parade (minus the "Pride of All Nebraska" Cornhusker Marching Band because the buses could not leave Lincoln due to blizzard conditions), and visiting Olde Towne before heading to the big game.  I never thought we would need our long sleeve shirts and jackets, but I am glad we packed them.  The weather proved to be a bit cooler and rainier than we had expected.

Neither of us have attended a bowl game so this was a great experience seeing the Husker's on the road in a big, nationally televised game that would ultimately define their season.  Despite the first rainfall ever in Holiday Bowl history, the Huskers shutout the Wildcats 33-0.    The defense was amazing and the offense for the first time during the season came alive.  It was a great game but a little boring as the pace of the game was dominated by the Husker's the entire time.

Here are some photos from our trip.  Next season for the Huskers should be a good one, despite not having N. Suh leading the charge on defense and with hopes that losing just a few players on offense, the off-season will bring some much needed re-tooling and not losing the momentum of the bowl game.  Go Huskers!

Christmas 2009

Evan's first Christmas was very special although a bit delayed.  Mother nature decided to add to the 1 foot of snow that was already to the ground...with freezing rain, regular rain and at least another foot of snow.  All of this put Christmas on hold for a few days because no one could get out of their house or neighborhood.  But, we got to enjoy every minute of Evan and I think he was tired of seeing us every day without a change of scenery.

We were finally able to get around Omaha on Sunday after Christmas and see our Omaha family.  The day was filled with great food and family time for Evan with grandparents, their families, and his aunt and uncle.  After a day long of presents, we headed home so Evan could rest up.

Colorado was our next destination to celebrate Christmas.  Our trip there was delayed by a day, but we made it with no issues.  Traveling I-80 was tricky all the way to Grand Island, but we made it to Brush safely to enjoy Grandpa and Grandma Cook.

This Christmas was truly unique because of the inclement weather but very special because we got to spend time with our newest arrival in 2009, our E-man.  Here is the collection of photos from time spent with family and the enormous amount of snow we received.
